Joe Scoby is the head of Magnetar Capital’s Systematic Investing group. He is also a member of the firm’s Management and Investment committees.
Joe has more than 29 years of market experience in investment and risk management.
Prior to joining Magnetar, Joe was most recently the chief executive officer of Achievement Asset Management. Previously, he was the head of alternative and quantitative investment at UBS Global Asset Management as well as the founder and chief investment officer for UBS O’Connor’s funds for 10 years. He was on the UBS Group Executive Board as the chief risk officer, steering the bank through the 2008 financial crisis.
In four years of study, Joe earned, with honors, both a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and a Master of Arts degree in regional science from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He has been involved in several community organizations, including the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board, the Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Board, the Archdiocese of Chicago Finance Council, and the Accelerate Institute and World Business Chicago’s FinTech Council.
