Barbara Bernstein is Magnetar Capital’s Chief Human Resources Officer, who oversees the firm's HR, Foundation and General Services functions. She also serves as a member of the Management and Operations Committees, and is Secretary of the Magnetar Capital Foundation.
Barbara is responsible for supporting and advising the business on all aspects of people, culture and organizational change. She oversees recruitment, compensation and benefits, culture-building initiatives, facilities and community relations efforts, among others.
In 2011, she helped establish the Magnetar Academy, a free, hands-on program that prepares high school youth to make informed financial decisions and guided the 2016 partnership between Magnetar Capital and UChicago STEM Education, resulting in the formation of the Magnetar Capital UChicago Financial Education Initiative.
Prior to joining Magnetar Capital in 2008, Barbara served in a number of senior leadership human resources roles at JPMorgan Chase and its predecessor firm Bank One, including Head of Recruiting for JPMC and Manager for the HR integration of the JPMC and Bank One merger. Prior to the merger, Barbara was head of Recruiting and Training for Bank One and Head of Human Resources for Private Client Services and the Corporate Staff Organizations. Barbara began her career at American International Group in 1986. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Syracuse University.
