Financially Empowering Students

Magnetar Academy was established in 2011 by the founders of Magnetar with a simple mission: to educate students in making smart financial decisions. In 2016, the Magnetar Foundation and the University of Chicago partnered to scale financial education across the U.S. A product of this partnership, finEDge – a single-semester high school financial literacy program – is now taught in high schools across 13 states.

Given our size, we place a lot of value on candidates who are willing to roll up their sleeves and take on any work, no matter your level. We seek out candidates who are smart, collaborative, driven, and have that natural intellectual curiosity to help us challenge ourselves and stay committed to our emphasis on innovation.

What opportunities are available for entry-level employees?

We have two entry-level, rotational programs: Software Engineer Rotational Program, and Rotational Analyst Program, a program specifically designed for cross training young talent through core back-office teams (such as fund accounting, operations, and fund reporting). Both programs hire graduating seniors for summer start dates, and recruitment begins in the fall for both programs.

In 2023, Magnetar made donations to 55 separate charities. This includes matching grants to charities of employees' choosing.

In 2011, our founders established the Magnetar Youth Investment Academy with a simple mission: educate students in making smart financial decisions. Since then, the Magnetar Foundation partnered with the University of Chicago to expand our impact to serve over 30,000 high school students through more than 1,400 classes in over 200 schools.

How have Magnetar employees volunteered to support youth financial education?

Since the Magnetar Youth Investment Academy was established in 2011, employees have volunteered more than 22,000 hours towards financial education initiatives – like coaching a high school team at the Magnetar Team Challenge stock trading competition, or supporting the development of the new finEDge financial education curriculum. In addition, the Magnetar Capital Foundation has donated $16+ million to support the cause.
