March 25, 2019 – Brian Portnoy, Magnetar’s Director of Education, was recently awarded the top prize (Gold Medal) for Personal Finance and Investing at the Axiom Business Book Awards for The Geometry of Wealth: How to Shape a Life of Money and Meaning. The Axiom Awards recognize North American business publishing excellence and innovation across 22 business and finance-related categories.
The Geometry of Wealth, published last year by Harriman House, argues that true wealth (distinct from “rich”) is the ability to underwrite a meaningful life, or what he refers to as “funded contentment.” Leveraging fields as diverse as neuroscience, history, psychology and philosophy, Brian simplifies the path to wealth through three basic shapes: A circle, triangle and square illustrate the imperatives to define our purpose, set clear priorities and make smarter decisions, respectively.
Brian, who earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and is a CFA Charterholder, is also the author of The Investor’s Paradox: The Power of Simplicity in a World of Overwhelming Choice, which clarifies hedge fund due diligence through the lens of behavioral finance. Awarded books receive an Axiom Business Book Awards seal for their front cover to highlight the achievement.
